Former James Bond actor, Pierce Brosnan had a chance to relive his days as 007 on Tuesday’s Tonight Show. The show’s host, Jimmy Fallon, challenged Brosnan to a game of GoldenEye 007, a game that was inspired by Brosnan during his tenure as James Bond following the 1995 movie, GoldenEye. The game, which features Brosnan’s face on the cover, was released on the Nintendo 64 console in 1997, is a first person shooter with a split screen multiplayer mode that allows up to four players to compete simultaneously. Fallon who said that it was his “childhood dream” to compete against Brosnan in the game is more than ready to take on the real-life Bond, who admitted beforehand that he did not have very much experience with the game saying, “I played it once and shot myself in the foot.” During their match Brosnan is clearly unfamiliar with the game and its controls – accidently using a karate chop move instead of his gun, allowing Fallon to defeat him with little effort.
When the game was released in 1997, Brosnan was still new to his role as James Bond. In June 1994 Brosnan signed a for a three, possibly four film deal as James Bond. In 2002 bond appeared in his final role as James Bond in the film Die Another Day, and at that time he expressed that he would like to continue the role, stating: “I’d like to do another, sure. Connery did six. Six would be a number, then never come back.” However, in February 2005 he announced that he would no longer play the role and since his last appearance as Mr. Bond he has gone on to star in more than 20 other films.
Out of the seven actors to play James Bond, Brosnan’s face is featured on the most video games. Other than GoldenEye 007, Brosnan’s picture appears on the cover of Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing. While Brosnan is the only 007 actor to star in four video games; he is also probably the only James Bond to ever be beat at his own game.
